Tax-free shopping changes on 1 November 2026
Visitors now pay the full price including 10% consumption tax, then get the tax refunded after customs confirms at departure that the goods are leaving Japan (within 90 days of purchase, minimum ¥5,000 before tax per store). Each buying guide explains what this means for that product.
